Summer 2007 - Artistic Adventures

With the Opera Company of Philadelphia's busy season schedule from October through May, many people wonder if summertime means quiet days around the office. Not so! The Opera Company staff shifts into planning mode in all areas, and for the music department, summer is a time to network and secure artists for future seasons. Summer 2007 provided no shortage of opportunities!

In late June, General & Artistic Director Robert B. Driver traveled to Prague for a major scenic design expo, where he connected with a new designer whose work may be seen on the OCP stage in future seasons. He then went to Milan's La Scala, and was on hand for tenor Bill Burden's debut in the title role of Candide.

In July, Driver stopped off in Treviso, Italy, where he had been asked to judge the 37th Annual Toti dal Monte Vocal Competition alongside famed singer Regina Resnik.

The summer concluded with a trip to Santa Fe Opera led by Driver and Managing Director David Devan, where Opera Company of Philadelphia enthusiasts enjoyed Music Director Corrado Rovaris leading the Santa Fe production of La boheme.
