Norma - Week One

OCP Director of Orchestra Personnel Robert Loy sits at the piano during a break in rehearsal.

Making her Opera Company debut as Adalgisa, mezzo-soprano Kristine Jepson runs through a scene with tenor John Pickle, who is the rehearsal cover for Pollione, a role which will actually be sung by tenor Philip Webb.

Set designer John Conklin's lavish design includes set pieces with authentic druid etchings and a stone used for human sacrifices.

From left to right, assistant stage manager Valerie Clatworthy and director Kay Walker Castaldo stand in for supernumeraries in a scene with soprano Christine Goerke, who returns to the Academy of Music stage as Norma.

Costume Designer Richard St. Clair goes through many stages when planning the look of a production. One of the first steps is a detailed costume sketch, like this one of the dress that will be worn by soprano Christine Goerke in the title role. Later, he shows the director photos of the fabrics he is using and sketches ideas for the wig designs that should go with each costume.
